Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved From Demolition: A Victory for Country Music History

  • by

The former mansion of renowned country music artist Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being destroyed. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the iconic property, but they changed their minds after receiving strong opposition from the public.

Located in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Twitty's estate was a popular tourist attraction known as Twitty City. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex and it is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. To accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities, Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal included demolishing all structures on the property except for the Huckabee Theater. This plan received significant attention from the media.

After an initial vote, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen decided against TBN. In response to public feedback and a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, TBN has now altered its plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported on these developments.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the focus was on doing what was morally right rather than the financial aspect.

TBN has not disclosed the details of their plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion, however, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the establishment as a means of paying tribute to the renowned country artist.
