Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Country Music History

  • by

The former mansion of country music icon Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners changed their plans to tear it down after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also the location of his well-known Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming site for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished for a specific reason. In December of 2023, a tornado hit the area, causing damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN made this decision after considering public feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty. Ryles had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.

The decision to determine the future of Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional costs involved, the primary concern was doing what was deemed appropriate in this situation.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia has stated his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the lasting impact of the renowned country singer.
