Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Country Music History

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being torn down. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the iconic house but changed their minds after facing public opposition.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also the location of his famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response, Frank Amedia, who is in charge of TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This would create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received a lot of attention from the media and faced intense scrutiny.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after considering public feedback and engaging in a meeting with Twitty's daughter, Joni Ryles, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition, TBN has now altered its plans. This update was reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and consultation with various individuals. Despite the potential increase in expenses, the main focus was on doing what was perceived as the right thing to do.

TBN has not provided any details regarding how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the well-known country music legend.
