Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Country Music History

  • by

The historic mansion in the Nashville area, previously owned by renowned country music artist Conway Twitty, has been rescued from being destroyed. The current owners changed their decision to demolish the property after receiving strong opposition from the public.

Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished for several reasons. Firstly, a tornado hit the area in December 2023, causing significant damage to the structural stability of the old Twitty mansion. This led Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, to propose a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was necessary to make space for the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. As a result, the plan attracted a great deal of attention and scrutiny from the media.

After receiving a negative vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter its original plans. This decision was influenced by public feedback and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

What will happen to Conway Twitty's house now is a question that has been considered carefully. The city's sentiment was taken into account, and after prayer and meetings with various individuals, it was decided that taking a certain course of action was the right thing to do, despite the additional cost involved.

TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the building in a way that pays tribute to the influential country artist's legacy.
