The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from demolition. The current owners decided to change their plans after receiving public backlash.
Twitty's property, located in the upscale suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also a well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being utilized as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
The former mansion of Conway Twitty was at risk of being demolished due to the damage caused by a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who is in charge of TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to create space for expanding the studio and constructing senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Twitty's daughter, Joni Ryles, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional financial burden it may impose, the main concern was doing what was deemed right in response to the city's sentiment.
TBN has not released any details about how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the venue as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country legend.
