Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Historic Preservation

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a well-known country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners of the property changed their decision after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property, located in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his estate but also the location of the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, which is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the old Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was planned to create space for expanding the studio and constructing senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

After receiving negative feedback from the public and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter who opposed the demolition, TBN decided to alter their plans. Initially, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted against TBN. WKRN in Nashville reported on this development.

The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. The city's opinion was taken into account and meetings were held with various individuals. The cost of the project was not the main concern, as the focus was on doing what was deemed right.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to preserve the facility, intends to utilize it as a tribute to the renowned country icon.
