The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a renowned country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from destruction. The current owners had initially intended to demolish the property but changed their minds after receiving significant opposition from the public. This decision was made in response to the public's outcry, considering it the appropriate course of action.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location for his well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. In recent times, the property has been utilized as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response to this, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media, leading to intense scrutiny.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen held an initial vote against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after receiving feedback from the public and engaging in a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty. Ryles had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the main concern was doing what was deemed right.
TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the property as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country artist's legacy.
