Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Music History

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a country music legend, has been saved from being torn down in the Nashville area. The owners of the property had initially planned to demolish it, but changed their minds after receiving public backlash.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also a popular tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty's death in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

The former mansion of Conway Twitty was damaged by a tornado in December of 2023, causing its structural stability to be compromised. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. This plan aimed to demolish all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the development of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention from the media.

After receiving a negative vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter its original plans in response to public feedback and a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty's, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition. This decision comes after a discussion between TBN and Ryles facilitated by Amedia.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the priority was doing what was deemed right for the city.

TBN has not yet provided any details about their plans for saving the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the place in order to pay tribute to the remarkable achievements of the renowned country legend.
