Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Preservation

  • by

The former mansion that once belonged to famous country music artist Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been saved from being demolished. The current owners decided to reconsider their plans after facing public opposition.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also home to the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into a versatile entertainment complex, and currently, it is being utilized as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished was because a tornado hit the area in December of 2023 and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention from the media.

Following a vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that did not favor TBN, the television network has altered its original plans after considering public opinion and engaging in a discussion with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The speaker, Amedia, explains that they have taken into consideration the opinions of the city, prayed about it, and consulted with others. They believe that their decision to take a certain action is the right thing to do, despite the fact that it will require additional funds.

TBN has not provided detailed information about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the renowned country legend.
