The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners of the iconic property changed their plans after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of the famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show called Huckabee.
The reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home was due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, then presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was intended to clear space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.
After an initial vote, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen did not approve TBN's plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN has decided to alter their plans in response to public feedback and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the city's opinions, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the primary concern was doing what was deemed right.
TBN has not provided detailed information about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the space to commemorate the incredible legacy of the renowned country artist.
