Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved From Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The historic mansion that was once owned by Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, in the Nashville area has been rescued from being torn down. The current owners changed their minds about demolishing the property after facing public opposition.

Twitty had an estate located in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville. This estate was not only his home but also a popular tourist attraction known as Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They decided to transform it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the estate is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished because it was severely damaged by a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. In response, Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. This plan attracted significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

After an initial vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that did not favor TBN, TBN has decided to alter its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after considering public feedback and having a meeting with Twitty's daughter, Joni Ryles, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and meeting with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses it will incur, the financial aspect was not the determining factor in making this decision.

The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a means to pay tribute to the influential country music legend.
