Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the house, but they decided to reconsider their decision after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his personal estate but also a well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

The reason behind the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home was due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. This tornado damaged the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition would pave the way for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after considering public feedback and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty. Ryles had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and discussions with various individuals. The sentiment of the city was taken into account and after praying about it, the decision was made to proceed. The priority was doing what was right, regardless of the additional cost involved.

TBN has not disclosed the details of how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the location as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country legend.
