The former mansion of country music icon Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their decision after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to make space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. This decision was influenced by public feedback and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The city's sentiment towards Conway Twitty's house has been taken into consideration. After praying and meeting with people, it was decided that the right course of action was to proceed with a certain decision. Despite the additional cost, the financial aspect was not the main concern.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet, but Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the renowned country artist's legacy.
