The historic mansion that was previously owned by country music icon Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially intended to tear it down, but they changed their decision after facing strong opposition from the public.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also housed the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
The reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home was due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023, which caused damage to the structural stability of the mansion. Frank Amedia, who is part of TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make room for an expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. This plan attracted significant attention from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter who opposed the demolition, TBN has decided to change its plans.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the added expenses, the primary concern was doing what was deemed right.
The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the renowned country artist's enduring legacy.
