The former mansion of music icon Conway Twitty, located in Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but after facing public backlash, they decided to reconsider their decision and preserve the historic property.
Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also the location of his well-liked tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused significant damage to the mansion's structure. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was in order to pave the way for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received a lot of attention from the media.
After receiving negative feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has altered its plans following an initial vote against them by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, as reported by WKRN in Nashville.
The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the fact that it will be more expensive, the city strongly felt it was the right thing to do.
TBN has not disclosed the details of how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion, however, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a way to pay tribute to the influential country artist.
