The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the iconic home but changed their decision after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-liked tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished was because a tornado hit the area in December of 2023 and caused damage to the structural stability of the mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make space for the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.
After receiving a negative vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter their plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after considering feedback from the public and holding a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously voiced her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional expenses involved, the primary concern was doing what was morally right, as expressed by the city's sentiment.
TBN has not provided any details regarding the plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a means of paying tribute to the renowned country artist's legacy.
