The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being torn down. The current owners of the property had initially planned to demolish it, but after receiving backlash from the public, they decided to change their plans.
Twitty's property, located in the upscale neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his private estate but also a well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They decided to transform it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused significant damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all existing structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was planned to create space for expanding the studio and constructing senior living facilities. The proposed plan received extensive attention and scrutiny from the media.
After receiving an initial unfavorable vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter its plans. According to a report by WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after taking into account public feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to do something about Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and meeting with relevant individuals. Despite the fact that it will be more expensive, the priority was not the cost.
Details regarding the preservation of the Twitty Mansion by TBN have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, in the past, expressed his desire to utilize the venue as a means to pay tribute to the influential figure in the music industry.
