The historic mansion in the Nashville area, previously owned by the renowned country music artist Conway Twitty, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially intended to tear it down, but they changed their decision in response to public backlash.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused significant damage to the structure of the former Twitty mansion. To accommodate the expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This proposal received a lot of attention and scrutiny from the media.
After a vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN initially faced opposition. However, they have now altered their plans based on public feedback and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter, who had previously expressed her disapproval of the demolition.
Amedia explains that they carefully considered the opinions of the city, sought guidance through prayer, and consulted with others. Ultimately, they concluded that taking a certain action was the morally correct decision, regardless of the financial implications.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed at this time. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to pay tribute to the renowned country artist, mentioned that he would like to utilize the property for that purpose.
