The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the iconic house but changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being utilized as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished is because it was damaged by a tornado that occurred in December of 2023. Frank Amedia, who works for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. This decision was influenced by public feedback and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and consultation with the community. Despite the financial implications, the priority was doing what was deemed right.
TBN has not provided the details of how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the influential figure in the country music industry.
