Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Story Behind the Iconic Home

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, in the Nashville area has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property but changed their decision after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also housed a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

What was the reason for Conway Twitty's home being scheduled for demolition?

In December of 2023, a tornado hit the region and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, put forth a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make room for the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who was against the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. This decision came after WKRN in Nashville reported on the matter.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional expenses, the priority was doing what was morally right according to Amedia.

The details about how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his interest in preserving the facility, mentioned that he would like to utilize it as a tribute to the renowned country music figure's heritage.
