The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, in the Nashville area, has been saved from being destroyed. The current owners changed their decision to demolish the house after receiving backlash from the public.
Twitty had a property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, an upscale suburb of Nashville. This property was not only his private estate but also housed a tourist attraction called Twitty City, which became quite popular. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was acquired by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They decided to transform it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished due to the damage caused by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to create space for expanding the studio and constructing senior living facilities. This proposal received significant attention from the media.
After a preliminary vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen did not favor TBN, TBN has decided to alter its plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN made this decision after considering the feedback from the public and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the primary concern was doing what was deemed right in response to the sentiment expressed by the city.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who is involved in the project, expressed his desire to utilize the mansion as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country artist's heritage.
