Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a renowned country music artist, in the Nashville area has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially intended to tear it down, but they changed their decision after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee was not only his estate but also a well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished because it was damaged by a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who works for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This would create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. This decision was reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was based on carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and holding discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the main concern was doing what was deemed right.

TBN has not provided any detailed information yet regarding the plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country artist.
