Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Power of Public Outcry and a Change of Plans

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been saved from being torn down. The current owners decided to reconsider their demolition plans after facing public outcry, believing it was the right thing to do.

Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also housed the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, Trinity Broadcasting Network bought the property and turned it into an entertainment complex. Currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. To accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This plan received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously opposed the demolition, TBN has now decided to change its plans. This decision was reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The city's sentiment regarding the fate of Conway Twitty's house has been taken into consideration by Amedia and his team. After praying and meeting with various individuals, they have concluded that it is the appropriate action to take. The decision was not based on financial concerns, as they are willing to invest more money if necessary.

The details of how TBN intends to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia had mentioned his desire to utilize the property as a means to pay tribute to the great influence and impact the country icon had.
