The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after receiving strong opposition from the public.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville in Nashville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also a tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response to this, Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to create space for an expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention and criticism from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has now altered its plans after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after listening to the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional cost, the priority was doing what was deemed right.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to utilize the property, intends to honor the renowned country artist's legacy through the facility.
