Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Story Behind the Iconic Home

  • by

The historic mansion that was once owned by the famous country music singer Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being destroyed. The current owners had initially intended to demolish the property, but they changed their minds after receiving a strong negative reaction from the public.

Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a prosperous suburb of Nashville, was not only his estate but also the location of the well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was sold to the Trinity Broadcasting Network, resulting in the closure of Twitty City. The network transformed the estate into an entertainment complex, which is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished due to damage caused by a tornado that occurred in December 2023. Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to make room for the studio's expansion and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

After receiving negative feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has altered its plans. Initially, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen had voted against TBN's proposal. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN reconsidered their plans following these developments.

The decision to do something about Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the city's opinion, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the fact that it will require additional funds, the financial aspect was not the main concern.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the remarkable contributions of the legendary country artist.
