Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Story Behind the Iconic Home’s Rescue

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they decided to change their minds after receiving a strong public backlash.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also the location of his famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into a complex for entertainment purposes, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention from the media.

After receiving a negative vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter their plans. This decision came after considering feedback from the public and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

What will happen to Conway Twitty's house now is a decision that has been carefully considered and discussed by the city. After taking into account the opinions of the community, praying about it, and meeting with various individuals, it was concluded that the right course of action would be taken. Despite the fact that it may require additional funds, the main concern was doing what was deemed appropriate.

The exact details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia, who is associated with TBN, mentioned his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the renowned country singer's heritage.
