The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty in the Nashville area, which is widely recognized, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially intended to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his personal estate but also a well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and presently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
What was the reason for Conway Twitty's home being scheduled for demolition? In December of 2023, a tornado hit the vicinity and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to create space for the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention from the media.
After a vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN's initial plans were rejected. However, TBN has now decided to alter their plans after taking into consideration feedback from the public and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and holding discussions with various individuals. Despite the fact that it will require additional funds, the main concern was doing what is morally right.
TBN has not provided any details yet about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia, who previously expressed his desire to utilize the facility, intends to pay tribute to the renowned country icon's legacy through its preservation.
