Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Story Behind the Preservation

  • by

The historic mansion previously owned by the renowned country musician Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been rescued from being torn down. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property, but they changed their minds after facing backlash from the public.

Located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Twitty's estate was not only his personal residence but also a famous tourist attraction known as Twitty City. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was acquired by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, leading to the closure of the tourist attraction. The network transformed the estate into an entertainment complex, which is now being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

The former mansion of Conway Twitty was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the mansion. To accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the establishment of senior living facilities, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This proposal attracted significant attention from the media.

After receiving negative feedback and hearing from the public, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. As reported by WKRN in Nashville, TBN has since altered its plans. This decision came after a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The speaker, Amedia, expresses that they have listened to the opinions of the city, reflected on it through prayer, and had discussions with others. They have come to the conclusion that taking a certain course of action is the right decision, despite it being more expensive.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the facility in order to pay tribute to the enduring influence of the renowned country music legend.
