Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Story Behind the Preservation of a Country Music Legend’s Home

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a well-known country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being torn down. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his estate but also the location of the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the Trinity Broadcasting Network bought the property and turned it into an entertainment complex. Presently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for the planned expansion of the studio and the development of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has now altered its plans after considering public opinion and meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter, who had expressed opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the main concern was doing what was morally right.

The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the influential figure in country music.
