Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: The Story Behind the Preservation of an Iconic Nashville Home

  • by

The former mansion of country music icon Conway Twitty in Nashville has been saved from being torn down. The current owners changed their plans to demolish the house after receiving backlash from the public.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a renowned tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, which is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished is because it was damaged by a tornado in December of 2023. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to create space for a planned studio expansion and senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Twitty's daughter, Joni Ryles, who had expressed opposition to the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. This decision was reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the extra expenses involved, the decision was based on doing what was deemed morally right, rather than being primarily driven by financial concerns.

TBN has not disclosed the details of how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the establishment in order to pay tribute to the renowned country artist's legacy.
