Conway Twitty’s Historic Mansion Saved From Demolition: A Victory for Music History

  • by

The historic mansion previously owned by country music icon Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been rescued from being torn down. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property but changed their minds after facing public opposition.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-liked tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that damaged its structure in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan aimed to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was necessary to accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal attracted significant attention from the media.

After receiving initial negative feedback from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter their original plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN made this decision after taking public opinion into account and after a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with individuals. Despite the additional expenses, the main concern was doing what was deemed right.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the facility in a way that pays tribute to the renowned country music figure.
