Conway Twitty’s Iconic Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Public Outcry

  • by

Country music legend Conway Twitty's former mansion, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a famous tourist attraction known as Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into a multifaceted entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

What was the reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home?

In December of 2023, a tornado hit the region, causing damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. This proposal attracted significant attention from the media.

After receiving a negative vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, the decision came after TBN took public feedback into account and had a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The speaker, Amedia, explains that they listened to the opinions of the city and considered the situation carefully. After praying and meeting with others, they decided that it was the right decision to make, despite the additional cost involved.

The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to pay tribute to the country icon's legacy, mentioned his intention to utilize the facility for this purpose.
