The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had originally planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after receiving strong opposition from the public.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a popular tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
The former mansion of Conway Twitty was at risk of being demolished due to the damage caused by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for the expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The media closely examined and analyzed this plan, resulting in intense scrutiny.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted against TBN initially, TBN has decided to alter its plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN made this decision after receiving feedback from the public and holding a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and having discussions with various individuals. Despite the fact that it will require additional funds, the cost was not the main concern.
TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a means of honoring the renowned country music figure.
