The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, in the Nashville area has been saved from being demolished. The current owners of the house had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after receiving backlash from the public.
Twitty owned a property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, which was a wealthy neighborhood near Nashville. This property was known as Twitty City and was a popular tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the Trinity Broadcasting Network bought the property and transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished for a specific reason. In December of 2023, a tornado hit the area and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. This plan aimed to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. The purpose of this demolition was to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN made this decision after receiving feedback from the public and following a meeting between Amedia and Twitty's daughter, Joni Ryles. Ryles had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the city's opinion, prayer, and discussions with individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the primary concern was doing what was deemed appropriate.
The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to pay tribute to the renowned country icon, has not shared any specific plans for utilizing the facility.
