A historic mansion near Nashville, previously owned by country music icon Conway Twitty, has been saved from destruction. The current owners changed their minds about demolishing the property after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's television show, Huckabee.
The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished is because a tornado hit the area in December of 2023, which caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN made this decision after receiving feedback from the public and engaging in a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city's residents, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the main concern was doing what was deemed right.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia, who has expressed his desire to pay tribute to the legendary country icon, has mentioned that he would like to utilize the facility for this purpose.
