Saving Conway Twitty’s Iconic Former Mansion: A Victory for Preservation and Public Outcry

  • by

The historic mansion that was previously owned by the renowned country music artist, Conway Twitty, in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property, but after receiving strong opposition from the public, they decided to change their plans as it was seen as the right thing to do.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was in danger of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to make space for the expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The media closely examined and scrutinized this plan.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after considering public feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has decided to modify its plans.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the potential financial implications, the priority was doing what was deemed as the right thing to do.

TBN has not yet provided any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to utilize the property, aims to pay tribute to the renowned country icon's enduring legacy.
