The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty had an estate located in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville. This estate was not only his residence but also the location of a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. Unfortunately, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex and it is currently being used as the filming location for the Huckabee show hosted by Mike Huckabee.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado damaged the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, a representative of TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to make space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. This decision came after considering public feedback and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the primary concern was doing what was deemed as the appropriate course of action.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to pay tribute to the renowned country icon, mentioned that he would like to utilize the facility for this purpose.
