A Reddit user is questioning whether she made the correct decision by reporting her mother to the authorities. This was prompted by her discovery that her mother had taken her credit card without permission to make purchases of fast food and clothing items.
A couple of weeks ago, the woman's mother requested a loan of approximately $500 from her daughter. The mother promised to repay the borrowed amount through Cash App once she received her next paycheck. The woman declined her mother's request and despite her mother's attempts to argue, the woman firmly refused and her mother eventually dropped the matter.
In the week that followed, she became aware that her credit card was no longer in her possession.
After receiving her check in the morning, she accessed her account online to make a payment towards her balance. To her surprise, the balance displayed on her account was significantly higher than she had anticipated. Among the expected charges for her electric bill, phone bill, and gas expenses, she noticed several unfamiliar charges for fast food, clothing stores, and other unrelated expenses.
The female individual suspected there might be a technical error, therefore she contacted her credit card company and attempted to recall where she could have unintentionally left the card. Nevertheless, when she reached out to her mother to express her concerns regarding the stolen card, her mother disclosed that she was the actual holder of the card.
After I informed my mother about the situation, she reassured me not to be concerned because the item was not actually stolen. Instead, she had borrowed it without informing me. I must admit that I became frustrated when I realized she was being serious. She assured me that she would transfer the money through Cash App when she received her payment the following day, and she believed she could resolve the issue before I even noticed.
The angry woman instructed her mother to cut the card into pieces, as she had already disabled it beforehand. In response, her mother scolded her for behaving like a spoiled child and refusing to assist her.
The situation quickly became more intense, and I ended up using offensive language towards her before instructing her not to reach out to me or visit me, and then ending the call. Following that, I contacted the police in my location as well as hers in order to determine the appropriate police station to file charges with.
The woman mentioned that her mother has been contacting her excessively to the point where she had to block her. Her mother has also been sharing on Facebook about how she is being sent back to jail just because she borrowed some money, and expressing her disbelief in raising a child who is unwilling to lend her money.
