A Reddit user is questioning her decision to involve the police after discovering that her mother had taken her credit card without permission and used it to purchase fast food and clothing.
Some time ago, the woman's mother requested a loan of around $500 from her daughter. The mother promised to repay the borrowed amount through Cash App once she received her next paycheck. The woman declined the request, and despite her mother's attempts to persuade her, she firmly refused and the matter was dropped.
The week after that, she became aware that her credit card was nowhere to be found.
She mentioned that she had accessed her online account to make a payment after receiving her check earlier that day. To her surprise, the balance displayed was significantly higher than she had anticipated. She was only expecting charges for her electric bill, phone bill, and some gas expenses. However, she noticed several additional charges that she knew were not made by her. These charges were for fast food, clothing stores, and other unrelated purchases.
The lady suspected there could be a technical error, hence she contacted her credit card company and made an effort to recollect where she might have accidentally left her card. Nevertheless, when she reached out to her mother to express her concerns about the stolen card, her mother disclosed that she was the person who had the card.
After I informed my mom about the incident, she reassured me not to be concerned because it was not stolen, but rather she had borrowed it. I must admit, I became upset once I realized she was being serious. She assured me that she would transfer the money to me through Cash App when she received her payment the following day, and she believed she would resolve the situation before I even noticed.
The woman who was very angry instructed her mother to destroy the card, as she had already made it inactive, but her mother scolded her for behaving like a spoiled child when asked for assistance.
The situation became more intense, and I ended up using offensive language towards her before instructing her not to contact or approach me. I then ended the call. Following that, I contacted both the police in my vicinity and her vicinity to determine the appropriate jurisdiction to press charges.
The woman shared that her mother has been excessively calling and messaging her, to the point where she had to block her. Furthermore, her mother has taken to Facebook to publicly complain about how the woman is causing her to be sent back to jail simply because she borrowed some money. The woman is baffled by how her mother, who raised her, could label her as stingy.

In the section where readers can leave comments, they suggested that the woman should take legal action against her mom and also discussed the possibility that her mom might have had previous encounters with the law.
"Returned to jail? So it seems like your mother has a tendency to break the law. It sounds like you made the correct decision. Don't reconsider, pursue legal action. She is not someone you should have in your life," a commenter expressed.
"Someone mentioned that your mother has engaged in credit card fraud. In the United States, this act is considered a serious crime and would be treated accordingly. It seems like she should have taken the potential consequences into account right from the start. If she wanted to avoid returning to jail, perhaps she shouldn't have stolen anything in the first place," another individual expressed.
"Do not allow her to manipulate you with guilt. It seems like there has been a pattern of similar behavior in your past, and you have multiple valid reasons for taking this action, not just one incident. Having this negativity in your life is unnecessary," another person added their opinion.
