Discover NUSofting’s Eugene Filter: A Unique Low-Pass Filter Plugin Available for Free

  • by

For a limited time, you can purchase SubLab, an audio software from Future Audio Workshop, for only $10. Additionally, NUSofting has recently released a free version of their Eugene Filter VST Plugin called Eugene Filter Free. This plugin, which is normally priced at €10, is now accessible for free on both Windows and Mac operating systems.

The plugin is available in VST2 and VST3 formats for Windows operating system (64-bit), and in VST3 and AU formats for Mac computers.

Eugene Filter is a unique audio effect plug-in that features a revolutionary low-pass filter. This filter, known as a cascaded integrator-comb ladder, offers a completely new approach to audio filtering.

The filter possesses properties that allow it to produce oscillations on its own, resembling the voltage-controlled filters typically found in virtual analog synthesizers. However, this filter has a broader range of resonances available.

The unpaid version functions in a similar manner to the Eugene Filter, but it does not include all of the features available in the unpaid version.

The YouTube channel of NUSofting presents a video that displays the Eugene Filter and its free version, highlighting the variations between the two releases.

According to the developer, the cascaded integrator-comb ladder filter by NUSofting possesses a distinctive quality. It is described as being light and resonant, similar to the sound of a human voice.

Music producers have the ability to provide the plugin with any desired input along with the noise that is controlled by the plugin's amplitude. By incorporating a small amount of chorus, which is also available in the plugin, it becomes possible to create fresh and unique sounds from any audio source.

In addition, the cascaded integrator-comb filter can be substituted (using a switch) with a common analog low-pass filter simulation called a 24dB/octave ladder, providing two choices for low-pass filtering.

The Eugene Filter Free version includes two low-pass filters that create resonance, a noise generator, a stereo chorus effect, and the ability to work in stereo. It also has control options for adjusting the input and output levels, as well as the wet and dry signals.

NUSofting, a solo venture, has simplified the download process for Eugene Filter Free by allowing users to obtain the Zip file with just one click, after choosing their preferred format.

The paid version of the software includes unique features such as an Envelope Follower, Random Walk LFO with adjustable Rate and Depth, and a preset selector that allows you to select from four different presets.

The Envelope Follower keeps a record of the volume of the input, while the Random Walk LFO adjusts the frequency of the filter, ranging from slow and gradual changes to rapid and unpredictable fluctuations.

The complete edition of the software also includes the option to adjust the size of the interface, a feature that is not mentioned in the features of the free edition.

The complete edition offers a wider variety of formats, since the paid Mac version can work with AU, VST2, and VST3.

Both Mac and Windows versions of the plugins offer the same features, including VST2 and VST3 compatibility, and are available in 64-bit.

When I first downloaded Nusofting's other free plugins, I decided to skip this one because I already have enough filters. However, I was pleasantly surprised by its sound quality. The graphical user interface may not be visually appealing, but I believe it's still worth downloading.

Hey everyone, you should give the Sinnah unconventional synth a try. I've been aware of it since 2018, and it's absolutely amazing!
