NUSofting Releases Eugene Filter VST Plugin for Free: Get a Taste of Unique Audio Effects

  • by

For a limited period, you can purchase Future Audio Workshop's SubLab for only $10. Additionally, NUSofting has recently launched a free version of their Eugene Filter VST plugin, which is now accessible for Windows and Mac users. The original Eugene Filter plugin is priced at €10.

The plugin is available in VST2 and VST3 formats for Windows (64-bit), and in VST3 and AU formats for Mac.

Eugene Filter is a plug-in for audio effects that introduces a unique and innovative low-pass filter. This filter is known as a cascaded integrator-comb ladder and offers a new approach to audio filtering.

The filter possesses self-oscillation properties that are akin to the voltage-controlled filters present in virtual analog synthesizers. However, this filter offers a broader range of resonances.

The unpaid version functions similarly to the Eugene Filter, but not all of its features are available in the unpaid version.

The YouTube channel of NUSofting has a video that displays the Eugene Filter and its free version, highlighting the distinctions between the two versions.

According to the developer, the cascaded integrator-comb ladder filter from NUSofting possesses a distinct quality. It can be described as airy and resonant, similar to the sound of a voice.

Music producers have the ability to input any sound they desire along with the noise produced by the plugin, which is controlled by its amplitude. By incorporating a touch of chorus within the plugin, they can create fresh and unique sounds from any original source.

In addition, the cascaded integrator-comb filter has the option to be substituted (using a switch) with a traditional analog low-pass filter emulation known as the 24dB/octave ladder, providing two different low-pass choices.

The Eugene Filter Free version includes two filters that reduce high frequencies, a device that generates noise, a chorus effect that creates a wider stereo sound, the ability to process sound in stereo, and controls for adjusting the input and output volume levels as well as the wet and dry signal levels.

NUSofting, a single-person venture, has simplified the downloading process for Eugene Filter Free by offering a convenient one-click option to obtain the Zip file once you have chosen your preferred format.

The paid version of the software includes special features that are not available in the free version. These features include an Envelope Follower, a Random Walk LFO with adjustable rate and depth, and a preset selector that allows you to select from a total of four presets.

The Envelope Follower keeps tabs on the volume of the input, while the Random Walk LFO alters the frequency of the filter, creating a range of effects from gradual changes to rapid fluctuations.

The complete edition of the software also includes an adjustable interface, a feature that is not mentioned in the list of features for the free version.

The complete edition offers a wider variety of formats, as the paid version for Mac is able to work with AU, VST2, and VST3.

The plugins for Windows are identical in both versions, and they are compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems in 64-bit. Both VST2 and VST3 formats are available for these plugins.

Three comments have been made by Moon Doggy

When I first downloaded Nusofting's other free plugins, I didn't bother with this one because I already have enough filters. However, I was pleasantly surprised by its sound quality. The graphical user interface may not be visually appealing, but I think it's worth downloading.

My apologies,

Who said that there is no pleasure in Eugene?

Oh yeah, actually.
