I have an exciting update to share with you from Los Angeles. Tim Carroll, the CEO of Focusrite Group, has been appointed as the new president of the MIDI Association. The MIDI Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving MIDI technology for artists and musicians worldwide.
Carroll has been appointed as the leader for a duration of two years, a choice that was made by the executive board of the MIDI Association. This is a significant period in the history of the MIDI Association, as the MIDI technology has recently progressed from MIDI 1.0 to the highly anticipated MIDI 2.0. With this latest version starting to be featured in various products and software, it is a thrilling time for all individuals involved in the music products and related industries.
Carroll, who is highly regarded in the industry and serves as the CEO of Focusrite Group, is anticipated to receive widespread approval from both the Association membership and the broader industry for his appointment. Focusrite Group is the parent company of renowned synthesizer brands such as Sequential and Oberheim, as well as the MIDI controller and synth company Novation. Carroll and Focusrite Group are dedicated to upholding and improving upon the legacy left by Sequential founder Dave Smith, who played a crucial role in the development of MIDI and introduced the first-ever synthesizer with a MIDI port 51 years ago.
The MIDI Association has a broader focus than just overseeing MIDI operations for manufacturers and developers. They are also deeply invested in fostering MIDI innovation, promoting music education, and supporting music and wellness initiatives. Carroll will offer valuable strategic guidance in these areas as the Association begins to allocate grants from the MIDI Fund, which is administered by the NAMM Foundation.
Carroll showed his excitement for his new position by saying that this is a significant turning point in the history of the MIDI Association. He believes that the industry has only just started to understand the possibilities of MIDI 2.0 and he is eager to collaborate with the MIDI Association board and its members in order to shape the future of MIDI, making it more expressive, musical, and creative.
Keep checking back for more news as we track Carroll's path as he leads the MIDI Association into an exciting new phase!
