Tim Carroll, CEO of Focusrite Group, Named President of MIDI Association: Leading the Way in MIDI 2.0 Innovation

  • by

Presenting an exciting update from Los Angeles, Tim Carroll, the CEO of Focusrite Group, has been appointed as the President of the MIDI Association. The MIDI Association, a significant non-profit organization dedicated to improving MIDI technology for artists and musicians worldwide, announced this significant development.

Carroll has been chosen by the executive board of the MIDI Association to lead for a duration of two years. This is a significant moment for the association, as MIDI technology has recently advanced from MIDI 1.0 to the highly anticipated MIDI 2.0. As this new version begins to emerge in various products and software, it is an exhilarating period for all individuals involved in the music products and associated industries.

Carroll, who is highly regarded in the industry and currently serves as the CEO of Focusrite Group, is anticipated to receive widespread support from both the Association members and the broader industry. Focusrite Group is the parent company of well-known synthesizer brands like Sequential and Oberheim, as well as MIDI controller and synthesizer company Novation. Dave Smith, the founder of Sequential and a significant contributor to the development of MIDI, introduced the first synthesizer with a MIDI port 51 years ago. Carroll and Focusrite Group are dedicated to upholding and improving upon the legacy left by Smith.

The MIDI Association is not only responsible for overseeing MIDI operations for manufacturers and developers. They also have a strong interest in promoting MIDI innovation, music education, and the overall well-being through music. Carroll will be offering valuable perspectives in these fields as the Association begins to allocate grants from the MIDI Fund, which is managed by the NAMM Foundation.

Carroll displayed his excitement regarding his new position, commenting that this is a significant turning point in the history of the MIDI Association. He believes that the industry has only scratched the surface of the possibilities offered by MIDI 2.0, and he is enthusiastic about collaborating with the MIDI Association board and its members to shape the future of MIDI by introducing more expressive, musical, and creative elements.
