I have some exciting news to share with you from Los Angeles. Tim Carroll, CEO of Focusrite Group, has been appointed as the new president of the MIDI Association. The MIDI Association is a non-profit organization that aims to improve MIDI technology for artists and musicians worldwide.
Carroll has been chosen by the association's executive board to lead for a period of two years. This is a significant milestone for the MIDI Association as they have recently transitioned from MIDI 1.0 to the highly awaited MIDI 2.0. As the new version starts to make its way into products and software, it is a thrilling time for all individuals engaged in the music products and associated industries.
The selection of Carroll as the CEO of Focusrite Group, a well-respected individual in the industry, is anticipated to receive widespread approval from both the Association members and the broader industry. Focusrite Group, known for housing renowned synthesizer brands such as Sequential and Oberheim, along with MIDI controller and synth company Novation, is dedicated to upholding and improving the legacy left by Sequential founder Dave Smith. Smith, who played a crucial role in the development of MIDI and introduced the first synthesizer with a MIDI port 51 years ago, has left behind a heritage that Carroll and Focusrite Group are determined to preserve and advance.
The MIDI Association is not solely focused on overseeing MIDI for manufacturers and developers; they also have a strong interest in MIDI innovation, music education, and the connection between music and wellness. Carroll will contribute valuable strategic perspectives in these fields as the Association begins to allocate grants from the MIDI Fund, which is administered by the NAMM Foundation.
Carroll shared his excitement about his new position, emphasizing the significance of this moment in the MIDI Association's history. He believes that the industry has only scratched the surface of the possibilities offered by MIDI 2.0 and is eager to collaborate with the board and members of the MIDI Association to shape the future of MIDI, making it more expressive, musical, and creative.
Be sure to stay updated as we continue to track Carroll's journey and his leadership of the MIDI Association into its thrilling new phase!
