Save 95% on Universal Audio's Electronic Music Bundle, a comprehensive collection of music production tools. The Crow Hill Company presents Shimmer Guitar, a guitar sample library that is now available for free. This marks the release of the fourth instrument in the FREE Vaults series by The Crow Hill Company.
The Crow Hill Company was created by Christian Henson. If you are familiar with Christian's previous work with Spitfire Audio, you will find the free Vaults series to be similar in style. Recently, the company has launched Shimmer Guitar, which is the fourth instrument to be released in the FREE Vaults series.
At the moment, there are currently four instruments available for free in the Vault. These instruments include Attic Grand, R+D Strings, Celestatone, and Shimmer Guitar.
All of these instruments, along with previous releases from Spitfire Audio, share a common feature, which is that they each possess a unique and recognizable personality or character.
Usually, the uniqueness of a character stems from factors such as the instrument being a highly distinct model, having a specific age, being recorded in a particular location, or any combination of these elements.
The shimmer guitar is created by combining an older, matured musical instrument, a classic amplifier, and utilizing the facilities of a renowned orchestral recording studio.
The guitar used in the recording was a Gibson Les Paul with a hollow body, but it was not initially intended to be that specific model. The original plan was to buy a vintage guitar that was pre-owned on the day of the recording, but instead, a Kay semi-hollow-body electric guitar was acquired.
Although it initially seemed impressive, certain technical difficulties required the Kay to be exchanged for the Les Paul, which proved to be a suitable alternative.
The audio was recorded in Lyndhurst Hall, a part of AIR Studios located in London. In order to capture the essence and true nature of the sound, the Les Paul guitar was paired with a classic Supro tube amplifier.
The Supro amplifier did not have any built-in effects, however, there were three Marshall stacks placed on the upper level of the hall with delay effects to create the desired atmosphere.
Similar to the other instruments in Vaults, the Shimmer Guitar includes six macros. These macros consist of two larger central controls, as well as four smaller controls positioned below them.
There are two main controls on this device called Filter (low-pass) and Shimmer. Additionally, there are Drive (British-style dirt), Mod (flange), Echo, and Splosh controls. If desired, you can reverse the order of Echo and Splosh to have reverb before the delay effect.
Shimmer is a mystical element that serves as a connection between all things, and when you have the perfect combination of earthiness, openness, atmosphere, and distinctness, it creates a truly extraordinary sound.
I am enjoying the musical instruments available in the Vault, and I anticipate the inclusion of more unique and delightful additions, similar to the LABS collection by Spitfire Audio.
If you haven't explored any content from Vaults yet, I recommend beginning with Attic Piano and progressing to Shimmer Guitar – these are delightful little free offerings!
Take a look at this offer: The Shimmer Guitar is available for free to all members of the Crow Hill Company as part of the Vaults plugins.

Has LABS ceased to exist?

In response to the real question, it appears that it has ceased to exist.
It has been 7 months since the previous release of LABS, which used to occur on a monthly basis. Christian was the person in charge of LABS, and since he is no longer here, it seems like the project lost its momentum.

I don't believe there will be any new LABS releases, unless Henson decides to come back to Spitfire Audio. However, I'm glad that he is carrying on the tradition with Vaults, which is very similar to LABS. Additionally, it seems like there will be a lot more patches released for Vaults in the future.

Oh no! My clever scheme to incite a revolution using the comment section of a website has been foiled again. Bravo to you, sir. Bravo… *the sound of thunder echoes in the distance*

Why was my comment about Christian being a transphobe removed? I didn't say anything offensive, I just wanted to raise awareness about who people are supporting.
I'm sorry
Musicians who are passionate about their craft prioritize the quality of their plugins and instruments over their origin. They have responsibilities such as jobs and bills to take care of, leaving them with limited time to concern themselves with the opinions and personal lives of others.

Hello Łukasz, the article is about a virtual instrument that is available for free. Any comments regarding politics, including gender politics, or any other topics that are not related to music production will be removed. These types of discussions tend to become heated and I do not want that on BPB. There are plenty of other platforms where these topics can be discussed. My goal for BPB is to create a space where people, including myself, can learn about music, engage in music-related discussions with other music enthusiasts, and find a peaceful escape from the negativity that often exists on the internet. Thank you.
