Get a Sneak Peek of NUSofting’s Glitch Pad Synth in Free Beta Release for Windows

  • by

For a limited time, you can purchase SubLab by Future Audio Workshop for just $10. Additionally, NUSofting has recently launched a beta version of their Glitch Pad Synth for Windows, which is available for free to the public until the end of March.

The Glitch Pad public beta is now accessible for 64-bit Windows in both VST2 and VST3 formats.

NUSofting usually offers complete plugins that are compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Therefore, when version 1.0 is released, Mac users will most likely have the opportunity to use these plugins as well.

The plugin can be traced back to a patch called Glitch Pad SynC Modular, which was released in 2002, making its origins several decades old.

Luigi, the founder of NUSofting, has recently revamped the initial algorithm and developed an enhanced oscillator, which has led to the creation of a brand-new VST synthesizer.

The developer has created a new version of the software using the C++ programming language. This early beta version can be downloaded from the developer's website, which is provided as a link below.

The beta version is completely operational and comes with a total of 23 pre-made settings.

Luigi has simplified the process of downloading the plugin, making it quick and effortless. Users can download the Zip file with just one click, without the need for logging in or providing any personal information.

A video on YouTube has been released, featuring an unofficial demo of the Glitch Pad. This demo highlights a unique sound that has a nostalgic, retro feel to it.

The synthesizer would be a perfect fit for genres like calming background music, unique soundtracks, and compositions specifically designed for video games.

The preset names, such as echo dream, echo pendulum, foggy voices, slow choir, and washed choir, give a hint about the different styles present in the presets.

Upon initial observation, the interface of Glitch Pad presents a multitude of information to absorb.

In terms of appearance and organization, there is potential for enhancement. However, considering that it is a free beta version, one should not have excessively high expectations.

Towards the lower part of the interface, there is a keyboard and a preset selector. Positioned above that, there is a graphical depiction of the waveform.

According to the plugin's interface, users have a two-month window to take part in the beta testing. The beta version will no longer be accessible after March 2024.

It is uncertain whether the Glitch Pad will be made available as a paid product or offered as freeware after the beta testing phase. This uncertainty arises because NUSofting has previously released products that were both paid and free.

NUSofting is currently offering discounts on some of their synthesizers. If you enjoy the sounds they produce, it would be worth exploring their other available products.

It is unclear if the synth will continue to be available for free once the beta period is over.

"You should mention in the title that this plugin is exclusively for Windows"… oh, you've already done that. I appreciate it, but unfortunately, it's too late now. The comments section is filled with Apple users complaining, and it has become a well-known joke at this point in the BPB community.

There is a similar level of snobbery among Windows users. Although I personally do not use a Mac, it is clear that there are a significant number of people who claim to be above discussing the topic of operating systems, and they are usually Windows users. Their presence is equally noticeable in the comments section.

This product is quite interesting. It has some great concepts, such as the functionality of the pitch envelope. However, it would greatly improve if it had a separate Low-Frequency Oscillator (LFO) for each destination, as well as additional shapes, including some more unusual ones, to enhance the randomization. It is possible that these suggestions are already being considered since it is still in the beta stage, but just in case they are not, it would be a great addition.

The Glitch Pad has the ability to produce amazing sounds! Luigi, the developer behind Nusofting, has always been underappreciated. His work is fantastic!

That's great! However, I have a complaint. I really miss the feature called "rewire". I believe that if rewiring was still available, these beginner digital audio workstations (DAWs) would be much more helpful as they could easily work alongside the DAWs we already use. It's surprising to me that as technology advances, such a useful feature is no longer available and hasn't been properly replaced yet. There are alternatives like Ableton Link or a Bluetooth plugin, but rewiring allowed for seamless sending and receiving of MIDI and audio directly from the DAW without any issues or latency, while keeping everything in sync.
