The now-famous individual was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas. He was the son of Doris and John Strait. During his teenage years, he developed a strong interest in news radio and the farmer's report. This passion stemmed from his family's ownership of a large ranch, and he often assisted in its operations, which drove his desire to stay informed.
Strait began his music career during his time at Pearsall High School. He was a member of a rock 'n roll garage band called the Stoics. When he went to college, he continued pursuing music by joining the country band Stoney Ridge. He found out about the band through a flyer they had put up on campus, where they were looking for a new vocalist.
After taking on the role of the lead singer, Strait decided to change the group's name to the Ace in the Hole Band and took charge as the new leader. They then started performing at various honky-tonks and bars in both southern and central regions of Texas.
During the year 1981, MCA Records approached Strait and he agreed to sign with them. As a result, he released his debut single titled "Unwound." The song achieved remarkable success in terms of sales, securing a spot in the Top 10 country music songs of that period.
As George Strait's popularity grew, he ventured into acting by accepting a role in the 1982 film "The Soldier". Following this, he made appearances in a handful of other movies, with "Pure Country" being particularly noteworthy. Additionally, he lent his voice to a character in the animated series "King of the Hill".
This country heartthrob's rise to fame was unstoppable, and by the 1990s, he had become widely recognized and earned the enduring title of King of Country Music.
Throughout his career, Strait has achieved over 60 songs that have reached the number one spot on various music charts. Additionally, his records have garnered millions of sales worldwide.
