From Ranch Hand to King of Country: A Look Back at George Strait’s Journey in 40 Photos

There are 40 photographs showcasing the younger years of George Strait. Despite having a career in country music that has lasted for over four decades, George Strait only developed an interest in country music during his high school years.

The famous individual, who was born on May 18, 1952, came into existence in Poteet, Texas. He was the child of Doris and John Strait. During his teenage years, he developed a strong interest in news radio and the farmer's report. This was because his family owned a large ranch and he actively participated in its operations, thus always wanting to be aware of current information.

Strait began his music career during his time at Pearsall High School, where he was part of a rock and roll band called the Stoics. Even when he went to college, he continued pursuing music by becoming the vocalist for the country band Stoney Ridge after seeing a flyer that the band had put up on campus.

After becoming the new lead vocalist, Strait took charge and changed the group's name to the Ace in the Hole Band. He swiftly became the frontrunner and led the group as they performed at various honky-tonks and bars in the southern and central regions of Texas.

In the year 1981, MCA Records approached Strait and he agreed to sign with them. Following this, he released his debut single titled "Unwound." This song achieved significant success in terms of sales and popularity, reaching the Top 10 on the country music charts during that period.

As Strait's popularity grew, he decided to venture into the world of acting. In 1982, he landed a role in the film "The Soldier." Since then, he has made appearances in a few other movies, with "Pure Country" being the most notable. Additionally, he lent his voice to a character on the animated series "King of the Hill."

This popular country singer was unstoppable, and by the 1990s, he had become widely recognized and earned the enduring title of the King of Country Music.

Throughout his successful career, Strait has achieved over 60 songs that have reached the top of the charts and has sold millions of records around the globe.
