I have a strong appreciation for synthesis systems that are modular and unconventional. Having discussed InfernalSynth before, I'm glad to discover that there is a new release or continuation of it.
Currently, Firefly is not as advanced or equipped with as many features as its predecessor. However, it does show a great deal of promise for future development and potential in the upcoming months and years.
The Firefly Synth is currently only available for Windows and Linux operating systems. Unfortunately, Mac users will need to find an alternative option.
The central component of the synthesizer is a group of four oscillators, each capable of functioning in various modes.
You have the option to utilize all four of these tools to create simple wave patterns, two Karplus-Strong algorithms, and also perform AM and FM synthesis. However, it is worth noting that the granular and additive synthesis modes are not included, despite the fact that the available options already provide a significant amount of capability.
This is directed towards a section where each voice has its own set of effects. You have separate DAHDSR envelopes that can be adjusted even more with individual LFOs and filters for each voice. All of this is connected to a strong mod matrix.
Each voice in the synth can be individually distorted, which is a valuable feature. Besides the absence of an FX plugin, this synth is capable of functioning completely. However, to fully utilize its capabilities, it is necessary to have a good understanding of synthesis since there are no pre-existing settings or presets available.
InfernalSynth was indeed an impressive tool, therefore it is highly likely that Firefly Synth will not only meet but also surpass the capabilities of its predecessor in the future.
The software functions properly on the majority of my hosting platforms. However, the developer has mentioned that Renoise is not compatible with it. Bitwig, FL Studio, Reaper, and Studio One all work without any issues. As for the system requirements, you must have a 64-bit CPU with AVX support on either Windows or Linux.
The plugin formats that are compatible with this software are VST3 and CLAP. I really appreciate the synthesizer for its FM features, but I am particularly fond of any tool that combines different types of synthesis into one convenient package.
If you are looking for more choices in terms of modularity, I recommend trying out the impressive ModulAir plugin created by Full Bucket Music and the Blocks by Soonth. Another great alternative to explore is the VCV Rack, which offers a virtual playground for modular synthesis

It's great to come across another CLAP plugin. I'm genuinely fond of the idea behind it and I hope it receives more appreciation and support.

This synthesizer looks absolutely stunning, even just by looking at the picture I can tell that it has a powerful sound engine. I'm really excited to create unique and unusual sounds with it!
