  • by

There are 40 pictures available showcasing a young George Strait. Despite having a country music career that has lasted over four decades, the singer did not develop a passion for country music until he was in high school.

On May 18, 1952, the famous individual was born in Poteet, Texas, as the child of Doris and John Strait. During his teenage years, he developed a strong interest in news radio and the farmer's report. This passion stemmed from his family's ownership of a large ranch, where he actively participated and desired to be well-informed.

Strait's journey in the music industry began during his time as a student at Pearsall High School. He was part of a rock 'n roll garage band called the Stoics. Even as he went off to college, he continued pursuing his passion for music by joining a country band called Stoney Ridge. He discovered this opportunity when he responded to a flyer that the band had put up on campus, as they were in search of a new vocalist.

After taking on the role of the lead singer, Strait decided to change the name of the band to the Ace in the Hole Band and took charge as the leader. The group then began performing at various honky-tonks and bars in southern and central Texas.

In 1981, MCA Records approached Strait and he agreed to sign with them. He then released his debut single, "Unwound," which achieved great popularity and reached the Top 10 on the country music charts during that period.

As George Strait's popularity increased, he ventured into the world of acting. In 1982, he landed a role in the film "The Soldier". Since then, he has made appearances in a handful of other movies, with "Pure Country" being a notable one. Additionally, he lent his voice to a character in the animated series "King of the Hill".

This country heartthrob was unstoppable, and as the 1990s rolled around, he became incredibly popular and gained the well-deserved title of King of Country Music, which he still holds today.

Strait has achieved over 60 songs that have reached the top position on the charts during his career and has sold a significant number of records across the globe.
